Whist is a multiplayer card game developed by
Takahouse, a game studio based in Saudi Arabia. The game is a modern digital adaptation of the classic trick-taking card game, designed for both casual and competitive players. It supports online multiplayer gameplay, allowing users to connect and play with friends or opponents globally.
The core rules of Whist involve:
- Players taking turns to play cards, aiming to win tricks by playing the highest-ranked card in the lead suit.
- Strategic bidding rounds where players estimate the number of tricks they will win in a hand.
- A scoring system rewarding accurate bids and penalizing overbidding.
As a Senior Game Developer, my contributions to the project included:
- Designing and implementing multiplayer functionality using Firebase and AWS as backend technologies, ensuring robust matchmaking and real-time gameplay.
- Developing in-game Unity Ads integration for seamless monetization while maintaining a non-intrusive player experience.
- Fine-tuning the UI and UX for an intuitive and visually appealing player interface.
- Collaborating with the design team to maintain the game's traditional roots while introducing modern digital features like leaderboards and achievements.
Whist is now available on multiple platforms, reflecting a polished and engaging gaming experience that balances strategic depth with casual accessibility.
